Hey, this is Alex Craw. President of the UTC Club Baseball Team and UTC Bass Anglers Club. Just wanted to give everyone an update on how the seasons have gone. The club baseball team finished out a tough season with a winning record of 10-9. They were 6-4 in their conference featuring two wins against MTSU and a win against UTK at Engel Stadium in their only meeting. The team looks forward to tryouts in the fall and hosting two tournaments with 4-8 club teams participating in each. Last fall, we hosted teams like Tulane, Indiana, Appalachian State, Ohio, MTSU, UTK, Georgia Tech, Emory, and Kentucky. Please try to come out support your Mocs in the fall and enjoy some free baseball at Engel Stadium.
As for the fishing club, we have received tremendous growth. In a matter of months, we have grown from 6 members to over 20. Out of 40 college teams, UTC has placed 8th and 7th at their last College Fishing tournaments sponsored by FLW and the National Guard. The locations they fished were Santee Cooper and Lake Wheeler, respectively. Tomorrow and Saturday July 11th, the Mocs will be taking on 60 other collegiate teams in the 2009 Under Armour College Bass National Championship on the Arkansas River in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The event will be televised by ESPN and will air in early August on ESPN U. I'm fishing the event Friday and Saturday and if we are in the top 5, we will advance to a third day and have a chance of winning upwards of $10,000 in cash and prizes for our club team. The weigh-in for each day can be watched on www.collegebass.com You should tune in between 3:30 and 4:30 Eastern Time to catch the weigh-in and see how your Mocs did on the water.
