MURFREESBORO - MTSU's women's basketball team couldn't have asked for a better start to this year's recruiting class.

Jordyn Luffman, a 6-foot-1 guard, committed to the Lady Raiders Monday while her team was taking part in MTSU's team camp. "Well, I like Murfreesboro and I like the coaching staff," Luffman said. "What I really like, though, is the fan support there.

"I've been to a couple of games, and I like how the fans are there. I've met some of their players during last year's season, and I just figured it was the best place for me."

Lawrence County Coach Wendi Scott said she wasn't surprised by Luffman's decision.

"I know the fan support they have was a huge reason," Scott said. "We have tremendous community support and Lawrence County, but when some of our players have left and signed to play in college, their support hasn't been good at all. "She's been to some games and has seen the atmosphere they have there, and I think that is very important to her."

Luffman is one of the top players in the state who can play multiple positions.

She was also recruited by Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Western Kentucky, Chattanooga and Belmont.

"I think she's a perfect fit for the style they play," Scott said. "Jordyn is a tenacious defender, she can run the floor, she's a great rebounder, she's a great shooter and she can take you off the dribble. "With the style that they play, she couldn't have picked a better place."

Luffman averaged about 17 points and more than 10 rebounds last season at Lawrence County. "I think my rebounding is my strength," Luffman said.

"On my high school team, I play everywhere, but I like playing guard the best."
Luffman said MTSU's offensive and defensive style also weighed into her decision.

"To tell you the truth, I didn't know a lot about them until last year," said. "I play AAU with Nike Flight and my coach told me the style they play is sort of what we do, and I like how that is. I'm really looking forward to playing for Coach (Rick) Insell."

Luffman's early commitment is huge for MTSU, which will lose six seniors after the 2009-2010 season.

"They're getting a great player," Scott said. "I just think it's the perfect place for her, and I think they're getting an outstanding player."

Luffman and Scott said it was important for her to make a decision early.

"I wanted to get it out of the way because it's pretty stressful," said Luffman, who helped lead her team to a 5-0 record at this week's camp.

"I wanted to enjoy my senior year and have that behind me."

Added Scott: "It's probably a bigger relief for me, but I could tell (at the camp) that she was a lot more at ease."

NCAA regulations don't allow Insell to comment on specific recruits.

Hall was the best prospect in the camp with remaining high school eligibility. She's strong but still moves like a wing. She came down a day early and got in an extra workout Saturday night with Gross matching her shot for shot in the drills. Taylor has a 4.0 GPA with a 27 ACT and seems like a Vanderbilt type of recruit. She'll have to keep improving her ability to create space to score. Top level mid to high major Division One.

The Lady Mocs recently picked up their fourth commitment for next season in 5-11 wing Destiny Bramblett, from North Hardin High School in Radcliff, Ky. According to North Hardin coach James Slaven, Bramblett averaged 16.5 points and 11 rebounds a game last season. She earned first-team all-area honors and was named to the district and region all-tournament teams.

"She does a lot of ball-handling for us, is our best perimeter shooter, our best free throw shooter and probably our best rebounder, too," Slaven said. "She's going to fit in well down there. She's a gym rat, a basketball junkie and she's just going to get better and better."

Destiny Bramblett may have what looks like an extra 'B' in her name, but she gets an 'A' for her game. The 5-8 wing is a tremendous athlete who's an outstanding shot blocker for her size and, not surprisingly, jumps very well. She likes to get to the rim, and has the body control to slither through traffic -- though she's happy to back down smaller guards, spin and attack. She also has good court vision, sets picks and will shoot three-pointers. Put it all together, and you have BCS potential.
