Just heard Bono is leaving to go to Iowa State to be assistant coach for Kevin Jackson. Best wishes to him and family and hope they will be happy there.

Anyone know why he is willing to take an assistant's job? Not dissing him for it, just curious.

It is his alma mater. Sometimes you can't keep a guy from going home.

and very possibly they can pay him more there as an assistant than us as a head coach....
Good Luck Coach! |

Iowa State, Better pay, Better budget, Better facilities....Coach Bono has done a hell of a job with what he had while at Chattanooga. Would hope he will bring
Iowa State to Chattanooga to wrestle in the Roundhouse one day very soon.

Wasn't he an assitant at Iowa State when he came here? His assitant left for Iowa State last month, so now we didn't have a full time coach left..Bono
and Brands were young guys still competeing when they got here, did a good job but didn't stay long.. Hopefully the next guy will stick around a little
longer..

Was Terry still competing when he came?? I didn't remember that. Maybe this time we need to get someone a little older and more ready to settle down. (not
Joe Seay older)

Would suggest Gentleman Saul Weingeroff for coach, but he is dead. |

It's been both a happy and sad week for me. Obviously I'm happy as an ISU fan that Chris and Nate are coming back home. Having become a fan of your
Program since he & Nate were there, and having met some of the young men representing your school, I'm sad to see him leave before he was able to
finish some of the things he started.
Best wishes in finding someone who will build on what was started. Go Clones!! Go MOCS!! |

I have met Chris Bono and I think he is a great coach and it pains me too say this, but I am sick of short time coaches (Terry Brands, Joe Seay, Sammie Henson
etc...). They come here with their grand plans, crack the NCAA top 20 ( Bono even went top 10) pad their resume and move on (or back). I love UTC wrestling too
much to keep seeing the wind knocked out of us. Can we not find anyone like Jim Morgan or Ethan Reeve anymore? Is this the way coaching operates now? Chris
knew this wasn't Iowa when he took the job, so did Brands! Coaches like this are just biding their time and padding their resume until they can get enough
experience to go coach back home or wait for the next open position

Please Hire A Local Coach!!!!
|
If we hire another national coach with no ties and loyalty to UTC we will continue to be a stepping stone. This will eventually hurt recruiting (who wants to commit their last 4 years of wrestling to a coach who will only be there for 2 years) and I can guarantee you it's hurting financial support and booster support right now. 4 coaches in 7 years has burned a lot of supporters and there are lots of discouraged people and families who have bought into this great tradition we have here in Chattanooga. However, 4 coaches in 7 years is not tradition and it is not UTC. We have local talent, we have great coaches, we have some of the most loyal fans in the nation and I am tired of supporting a coach that has zero ties to UTC but a great resume. We need to hire someone with local ties that the fans, administration, boosters and wrestlers can get behind and know the coach is here to stay i.e. Jim Morgan, Ethan Reeves. I vote for Heath Eslinger and/or Lloyd Rodgers. Two of the hardest working individuals I've seen in the practice room while competing and now coaching and passing on that work ethic to their wrestlers. Please, please hire someone local so we can get back to what UTC is known for...........TRADITION! |

Heath Esliner OR Steve Logsdon...hard to go wrong if you want to go with a former Moc with local high school ties...both are outstanding. Honestly, I think you
could have a year in, year out, Top 20 program with local talent and a local coach.
I have to agree with Mocster...I thank Brands and Bono, but I would probably be happier with a former Moc...not unlike Coach Huesman (or Coach Guhne)...who look at Chattanooga as the pinnacle, not just as a stepping stone.

Totally agree with the idea of NOT getting a big name that is only using us as a stepping stone as said before, but we shouldn't jump at someone local,
just because thier local. Need to be sure it's the right one.

Candidates...........

How about we just hook'em up to the lie detector and ask, "if you were offered a head coaching job in your "hometown" would you leave?"
Then whoever is left, we interview!!! This may help eliminate the revolving door we've had for 7 years now.
