There was 200-300 empty seats in the lower tier and about 1,200 fans in the upper level..The 4 fans behind me in section 101, bought their tickets 10 minutes
before 7pm at the Gate 1 ticket window and they were stuned that there were lower level seats still left..They kept saying all game, these are great seats..I
was real embrassed by the lack of fans at the womens championship game, I would say less than 400 folks in seats..What an exciting game.

Yes, the women's game looked empty, but the mens game looked pretty full. The ESPN announcers said 9000 fans were there...have no idea where they came up
with their number....

Paid attendance was much higher than those in the seats. You can announce all tickets sold. Fans from other schools who bought complete tickets were counted
even if they weren't there.

3 o'clock on a weekday is not exactly a good time to get people to anything.
"Now who are they playing?" "Oh they have that coach that's real good don't they?" "What channel is it on?" "ESPN?!!!" "Wow this must be a big deal then"

Once the UTC women lost on Sunday, the SoCon folks at 2:30-2:45 should have invited everyone in the arena to move over to the sections behind the benches to at least fill up the area seen by the TV cameras. |

I get criticized on here for telling the truth, but somebody has to do it. The McKenzie Arena, The Roundhouse, whatever you want to call it, is a big problem.
It's no one's fault reading this today, it's not Roger Brown's fault or John Shulman's fault. When it was built in the early 80's, it
was a disappointment to many folks from day one. The design is awful. You have 4,000 good seats, about 2,000 decent seats, and 5,000 awful ones. And yes, as
MocFan2 wrote earlier, many folks stayed home from a potentially great game like last night because of that question: "Where will I have to sit?"
And if you have a choice of watching from the comfort of your home, or watching from a mile high, looking straight down on a basketball court, many will make
the "stay home" choice.
Look around at successful basketball arenas and you will see a different design. What's been done has been done, and it will probably be decades before the Roundhouse is replaced, but next time I hope they get it right. Call me any name you like, but I will not attend an event in that facility where I have to sit in one of the 5,000 awful seats...especially if the event is televised. And apparently, thousands of other "casual fans" who are not Moc Maniacs feel the same way. |

According to ESPN 5042 in attendance. There were seats available for purchase in the lower bowl. As for regular season games--500+ lower seats are always
available. You didn't come. Don't make excuses. Arena is what it is--and it wasn't built just for basketball. I would love to have a modern 8000
seat arena on campus. Maybe I can win the lottery and donate the $$$$, cause it isn't happening soon.

I understand the reasons for staying home and watching the game, you get to sit in your own couch, free food, and if the game gets embarrassing you can change
the channel. Heck, I've done it. But this is the Championship game. How can you not want to go, even if you MIGHT get a bad seat. I am a broke college kid.
But that would never stop me from missing that game.
And if you do not go to a game, you have no right to criticize. I was disappointed in the attendance. I thought there would be more. But it got loud at times. |

UTC is on Spring Break this week. Not many students at the game.

Did students get discounted tickets?

This was the people of Chattanooga's fault.

I believe student tickets were $8.
Attendance for the finals was 5,042. Students were on spring break in 2005 too. The smaller attendance number than 2005 was due, imo, in part to the Mocs just not having a good overall season (record wise)...not many bandwagon types are going to hop on a .500 team bus. The nice thing was, the one's that were there were REALLY in to the game...when was the last time you saw that many people standing up for the last couple of minutes of the game? At this point, I don't care about attendance or whiny fans from others schools, etc, etc, etc...I am only thinking of the POSITIVES...the biggest being, the Mocs are going to the big dance!

The students at the game were GREAT -
This was a SoCon event, tickets were not issued by UTC Athletics - so 'no comps' or student section - but three or four clumps of them made a lot of noise. |

I'd also love to see a smaller arena on campus. What is bad about the Roundhouse is that most of the seats are in the upper level. Anyhow, Mocs are in
the NCAAs! That's all that matters now.

I take it back. It's not the people's fault.
If the Mocs have a 19-3 conference record with an All-American getting national attention every game those 5,000 awful seats become pretty good. I don't think there is a bad seat there. Just like apparently there are no bad seats in Thompson-Boling when UT is playing well. "not many bandwagon types are going to hop on a .500 team bus" I think that probably sums it up. |

I'm going to agree w/ Blevo when it comes to the critque of the Arena
the place sucks,... but as far as the team goes I'm going to start using my "atlanta braves" defense I'll let you worry about how many people show up to the games and I'll worry about the team winning championships |

Yes the Mocs still win a championship. Just wish more people would care. OK. Think I just had to rant after dealing with Davidson fans all weekend. GO MOCS!!! Make some noise no matter what seed it is. |
