Three Western Kentucky University football players are accused of sexual abuse, wanton endangerment and unlawful imprisonment.
The players are being investigated based on a Oct. 2 complaint received from a female student, according to Capt. Mike Dowell of the WKU Police Department.
I have no comment, I dont have any knowledge of the situation, WKU Athletics Director Wood Selig said this morning.
Selig did, however, explain WKUs policies toward such situations.
Our student-athletes are held accountable to a variety of conduct standards, Selig said. The first area relates to team and departmental rules, the second involves general student codes of conduct at WKU, and the third would involve general governmental standards that all citizens fall under. All of our student-athletes ... have three juries, if you will, to answer to.
The alleged incident reportedly took place at 11:08 a.m. in the Mimosa parking lot, according to a WKU Police report, and was reported at 12:57 p.m. when WKU Police received a call from the Bowling Green Police Department requesting assistance with an assault investigation.
Because the case is still under investigation I cant comment much further about it, Dowell said; WKU Police hasnt released the accused players names. If charges are filed in this case, they will most likely be filed within the next couple of weeks.
WKU football coach David Elson couldnt be reached for comment this morning.
