AAU: Grassroots Canada

Combo guard with athleticism and skill.

Notes: Calliste has always been one of the biggest sleepers in the country. That is surprising considering his outstanding play in Las
Vegas at the adidas Super 64 tournament. His recruitment has a number of quality mid-level schools in hot pursuit, and he's visited a handful of
schools. Now the biggest question Calliste, a Toronto native, faces is sign now or wait? According to those close to him, signing late is looking more and
more like the choice.

| GC Ballers' Guard Has High D-1 Interest | ||||

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a story on Jason Caliste ... |

The high major schools are already taking a serious look at one of Jeff Bishop's top players from the GC Ballers AAU program. It's not surprising to Bishop at all. "He's the real deal," said Bishop. "He does everything well on the court." Bishop is talking about Jason Caliste, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound combo guard who also competes for Pope John Paul II school in Toronto, Canada. "Canada is a gold mine now for basketball players," Bishop said. And one of the players that Bishop feels should land on a high division one level is Caliste. "He is such a competitor," Bishop said. "He wants to win every game, play every possession hard." Caliste is starting to receive some high division one interest due to his ability to make an impact at both ends of the court -- offensively and defensively. "Pittsburgh, Syracuse, George Mason, St. Bonventure are a few schools showing some early interest," said Bishop, who coaches the young kids this summer for the GC Ballers. Caliste, who played for the 16 and under team that performed successfully out in Las Vegas last month, is an athlete that Bishop feels will be a solid college basketball player. "Because he plays so hard and can score and defend he should do well on any level," Bishop said. For now, Jason is a big part of the GC Ballers AAU program. And Bishop is more than happy to have him aboard.
July, 2008: Calliste has good range on his jumper, consistently converting from 3-point range. He also has the quickness that
allows him to get to the rim off the bounce. Calliste becomes an even better offensive threat if he exercises better shot selection and not settle
so much for 3's in addition to cutting down on his tendency to over-dribble and get himself into trouble.
