The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team has experienced an extreme level of growth in Gavin McKinney's second season as head coach.
His Mocs may reap some of those benefits in the upcoming weeks.
UTC, which played East Tennessee State to a 2-2 draw on Friday and defeated Western Carolina 1-0 on Sunday, is 4-2-1 in the Southern Conference heading into the final weekend of the regular sesaon. With at least one win, the Mocs would earn a top-six seed, bypassing the play-in matches a week from today and earning their highest tournament seed since being No. 6 in 2005.
UTC (6-8-2 overall) plays Friday at Virginia Military Institute and ends the regular season at UNC Greensboro on Sunday.
The Mocs beat WCU with a clutch shot by senior Hannah Wyatt — who wasn't even expected to play this season — in the 41st minute. The former Soddy-Daisy standout was pushed up from defender.
