SECOND CONFERENCE SERIES SUMMARY The Lady Mocs swept and shutout the UNC Greensboro Spartans to tie for first in the Southern Conference last weekend, winning 7-0, 3-0, 4-0.
Senior pitcher Ashley Frizzell and freshman pitcher Brooke Loudermilk combined for the third shutout on Sunday giving up only three hits between the two pitchers. Frizzell picked up her fourth shutout of the season, second conference shutout, in the first game, and Loudermilk captured her sixth of the season in the second game. And Loudermilk threw 17 strikeouts in 10.2 innings.
Five different players hit home runs. Sophomore center fielder Ashley Cuticchia hit the first one out of the park, also her first on the season, before sophomore third baseman Toni Hutchison belted a three-run homer. In the second game, senior first baseman Alyssa Edwards and sophomore designated player Laci Upchurch each had one with Edwards scoring Blosser. And in game three, senior second baseman Brittney Whittier had a three-run home run to put the Lady Mocs up 3-0 early in the teams 4-0 win.
Freshman shortstop Tia Blosser earned five hits, including two doubles, in the three games. She improved her conference batting average to .429, slugging percentage to .571, on base percentage to .429 and also boasts a perfect fielding percentage.
Junior right fielder Tara Tembey went 2-for-2 on Sunday and scored twice, and freshman catcher Brittany Eason had a solid first game going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run. Eason also added 22 putouts on the weekend.
SENIOR SHUTOUT Senior pitcher Ashley Frizzell took Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending March 18. Frizzell, a Preseason All-Southern Conference Second Team selection received her first honor of the season, with her last honor begin named to the 2006 All-Southern Conference Tournament team along with teammate Alyssa Edwards.

This marked the first time any Chattanooga players had been honored in the 2007 season and Loudermilks first honor in her career.
LOW-DOWN ON LOUDERMILK Freshman pitcher Brooke Loudermilk has been a spark in the circle for the Lady Mocs averaging 8.83 strikeouts per seven inning game, good for the individual season record. She has thrown her career-high 14 strikeouts twice and has an opponents batting average of .207. Loudermilk has already accumulated 180 strikeouts, good for eighth in the career and single season record books. She has six shutouts and one combined shutout on 142.2 innings.
In her first conference appearance against UNC Greensboro, Loudermilk threw a shutout only allowing one hit and one walk. In 10.2 innings of conference play, she has only given up two hits and two walks and has an opponents batting average of .059.
Loudermilk has had to battle back from injury, which sidelined her for a week, missing the first conference series against Georgia Southern, but now is healthy.
FIRING FRIZZELL A limited pitching rotation is nothing new to senior pitcher Ashley Frizzell, who appeared in 51 of the teams 73 games in the 2006 season. And the same issue came about in the teams conference series against Georgia Southern.
But Frizzell, the only veteran pitcher on the 2007 roster, currently has a 3-0 record in conference play and an 0.00 ERA in 26.1 innings pitched. She boasts two shutouts and one combined shutout and has an opponents batting average of .170.
Overall, Frizzell has an 9-8 record, posting a 1.63 ERA on 129.0 innings pitched. She has 100 strikeouts on 494 at bats and four total shutouts on the season.
DOUBLE DUTY Senior Brittney Whittier has appeared both in the circle and in the batters box this season for Chattanooga. Whittier currently has appeared and started in 41 of the teams 43 games mostly at second base. But in the second game against Georgia Southern, Whittier started out in the circle only giving up two runs and throwing five strikeouts. In the box, Whittier has 25 hits and 12 runs on the season. She currently has three home runs, two doubles and a triple. And she has 14 RBIs to date. Her three-run homer against UNC Greensboro on April 1 helped lift the Lady Mocs to the 4-0 win for the series sweep.
