The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's and women's cross country teams were both ranked in the Top 10 for team grade point average in rankings announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The UTC men's team was second in the nation with a 3.72 cumulative GPA and trailed only Vanderbilt's 3.74. Mocs senior Patrick O'Brien, who recently received the Dayle May Award as the UTC athlete with the highest GPA, has maintained a 4.0 throughout college, and transfer Harry Smithers also has a 4.0. The UTC women's team tied for seventh nationally witha 3.71 GPA headlined by senior Keeley Stewart, who had a 4.0 last semester. This is the second time that both UTC cross country teams have made the Top 10 GPA list at the same time. In 2011, the UTC men led the nation and the women were sixth.
