The Randy and Bert Show (3pm-6pm) is no longer on the air, no reason given..Does anyone know if they both are still working with ESPN Radio 105.1 at all?

I only listen every once in a while (I don't have a radio in the store and I rarely drive)...but I did happen to listen last week.
What did they replace them with? Something local, or is it some kind of syndicated show? Boy, I tell ya, that was Randy's second time in the last decade to try and go up against Sport Talk...that is one tough nut to crack. About the only way you can crack the nut would to steal the show away from 102.3

The Randy and Bert Show was replaced with another local show, the Nick Bonsantos Show..Nick also has a Saturday show 9-12noon on 105.1 FM..ESPN Radio has been
real quick to change local shows, even when it was on AM..They had callers from all over a 30 mile radius, a lot more than when the started in July..In my
opion, they don't give the shows time to grow and build a following..I was surprised when they dropped the Max Howell Show, he had great contacts in the
business had a long history of radio in the South..

I hate that the show was dropped. I sometimes listened while driving home from work . Liked the idea that they supported the Mocs. Get tired of that Lane
Train blah blah blah on the other sport's show.

For those of you who have asked questions about the changes at ESPN radio, I will attempt to answer them for you. Bert and I have been replaced and we are no
longer affiliated with Brewer Media. Budget cutbacks were the reason at least according to station management. (2nd time this has happened to me in seven
months). Brewer hired us beginning in mid June and we did the show for four months. If we had known they were only committing to four months rather than at
least a year, we would have never taken the job. As far as the first rating book is concerned (June, July and August) it was surprisingly good especially in
25-54 year old males. ***while sports talk has an average audience of 1500 males at any one time, we delivered 500. This is before football season ever started
and when you consider Quake and Dr. B's show has been on the air for at least 18-20 years and our show was on four months, that's pretty good.
I am also not doing Ooltewah football, but if you have further questions about that feel free to contact the school next week. I thoroughly enjoyed doing the Owls' games this year and am pulling for them to win it all. I hope this answers a few of your questions. As far as what I will do next, I have no idea right now. But I am very sour on broadcasting. Its not the same as it was even five years ago. Randy Smith |

I don't particularly care for Nick's show. Nothing against him and this is only one person's opinion. I too think it is hard for a city our size to
have "competing" "local" sports talk radio shows at the same time.
I thought Randy and Bert did a very nice show. I found myself changing back and forth between theirs and Quakes and Dr. B's during commercial breaks and based on topics at the time. I thought it would have been a good idea to have Randy's show in the morning drive period. That way you would have two local shows a day. There are currently no morning local sports talk shows. Just my two cents and my opinions. Good luck in your future endeavors Randy. I personally think you are a true professional and a good person. |

I would do the same...I would just listen to whoever was talking about the Mocs.
