The school has discussed the Blue Cross Building...but talking to a corporate relocation agent I know (who signed VW to the corporate space downtown), he said that place is a white elephant...high upkeep on an aging structure and expensive utilities. Unless the school had a serious plan to utilize the entire building, it would be a major money loser.

The Wheland property might be intriguing if someone else was paying for the cleanup...if not, that place is going to cost a fortune to abate (sadly, that place will probably sit in its current state for a long time).

As for the acres out by Volkswagen, the tax payers spent a LOT of money developing that area specifically for major industry...not a college (though I could see some sort of extension courses taught somewhere out there...though that would be more in line for Chatt St than UTC).

I think you will see the school continue to try and buy as much land as possible between McCallie and MLK towards the railroad yard. And I wouldn't rule out land at the Cavalier site (next to where they have put up the privately funded greek row).
