This is why it is good to substantiate something before people get into a discussion about things...that lady doesn't know what she is talking about.

What she read is a rule to let NEC and Big South teams in the playoffs this year and next (before they get autobids in 2010)

So, she completely mis-read the statement about the new playoff rules. This rule is a bit like letting a non BCS school into a BCS bowl game if they meet certain criteria (this new rule, that includes an 8 win requirement, is to make sure a conference champions outside of the autobid FCS conferences still has a chance to make the playoffs in 2008 and 2009...then they will be automatically included in 2010).

Here is the link to the story and the actual, full, statement...

As part of the expansion, the Big South and Northeast Conference champions will receive automatic bids to the playoffs beginning in 2010 and can earn access into the field in 2008-09 by attaining certain criteria adopted this week during the Board of Directors meeting.

The Division I playoff committee adopted changes in the selection process that will guarantee entry into the postseason for any conference champion that wins at least eight games against Division I opponents, wins two non-conference games against teams from auto-bid leagues and ranks 16th or higher in an average of the Sports Network top-25 poll, the coaches poll and the Gridiron Power index (GPI) computer ranking.

So, to answer the original question posed by gomocs82...no, you won't have to have 8 wins to get in the playoffs. (But, for those who might not know, there is already a rule in place that says you have to have 7 DI wins to be playoff eligible)
